The leap forward of Osaka, the water city

In order to carry forward the networks and new mechanisms fostered as a result of Aquapolis Osaka 2009 and to continue the efforts to build a new, beautiful Aquapolis Osaka based on the river as a place for human activity, Osaka Prefecture, Osaka City, the business community, citizens, NPOs, and others have joined forces to start new activities to promote Aquapolis Osaka.

The Water and Light City Development Promotion Council was established in 2010 to drive urban development of the "Aqua Metropolis Osaka." It is made up of representatives from Osaka Prefecture, Osaka City, economic organizations, and other organizations in order to continue and pass on, on an all-Osaka basis, the efforts to revitalize the Aqua Metropolis of Osaka that had been carried out by the "Flower, Green, Light and Water Forum" and the "Aqua Metropolis Osaka Regeneration Council," as well as the systems and know-how cultivated in "Aqua Metropolis Osaka 2009."

The Water and Light City Development Promotion Council is responsible for total urban development, both in terms of soft and hard aspects, to improve the appeal of the water metropolis of Osaka and create a lively atmosphere, and in August 2011 it formulated the "Water and Light City Development Concept for Water Metropolis Osaka."
