Project Example 9 Higashiyokobori River

Buildings along the river are currently running the "Window Flower Project," where they decorate the riverside with flowers.
Higashiyokobori River is the oldest moat still standing in Osaka City, excavated as the outer moat of Osaka Castle. It is currently covered by an elevated expressway and is on the back side of the city. In recent years, the Higashiyokobori River Waterfront Regeneration Council (e-Yoko-kai), which is made up of local residents and building owners, has been working to beautify the waterfront and create a lively atmosphere, which has led to increased interest in the waterfront among local people. Buildings along the river that previously had their backs to the river are gradually turning to face the river, and activities are being carried out to utilize the open spaces along the waterfront for events, etc.
To coincide with the completion (scheduled for 2013) of the "Heisei Taiko Sewerage Works" sewerage construction (water purification measures for Dotonbori River and Higashiyokobori River) currently underway on the left bank upstream of Honmachi Bridge, e-Yokokai, boat transport businesses, and others have been considering developing the area around Honmachi Bridge into a base for small boats, "Hommachi Bridge BASE," which was proposed by the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry in June 2012. In the future, the parties involved will work together to flesh out the plan, with the aim of creating a base for Higashiyokobori River centered around Honmachi Bridge.
