In order to create beautiful scenery with Osaka's unique light, companies, academics, and the government are working together to revitalize the city of Osaka through light, using the Light City Planning Promotion Committee as a platform. "Light unique to Osaka" and "light that makes the most of Osaka's character" are "light that makes you feel water." Since the Light City Planning Promotion Committee was established in response to the "Osaka Flower, Greenery, Light and Water City Planning" proposal in 2003, various activities to revitalize Osaka with light have gradually borne fruit, and many activities have been realized, such as the installation of lights and illuminations by the government, and the independent illumination of private buildings. Among them, the "OSAKA Light Renaissance" that began in 2003 has become established as a winter tradition in Osaka, and the Nakanoshima area, where the event is held, is now visited by more than 300 million people every year. The illumination of Osaka Castle, Central Public Hall, rivers, bridges, and other unique historical assets of the water city Osaka weaves together the unique night scenery of Osaka, significantly improving the appeal of the water city Osaka at night. Efforts are ongoing, both public and private, to further enhance the creation of nighttime landscapes and light-up city development through light-up events, and to disseminate information both domestically and internationally.
