Project Example 14: Water Purification
The water quality of rivers in Osaka City became polluted due to household wastewater caused by the rapid urbanization during the high economic growth period in the 1960s, but as a result of various water purification projects in rivers such as dredging, water gate operation, and water surface cleaning, as well as measures against the source of pollution such as sewerage construction and industrial wastewater regulations, the concentration of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), a representative indicator of river pollution, has improved. In order to continue creating a cleaner water environment where people can enjoy water, it is necessary to cooperate with the water quality conservation efforts of each city in the Neyagawa River basin, which is the upper reaches of the water corridor, and to improve sewerage facilities and promote water quality conservation activities by local residents.
