Project Example 13: Aquapolis Osaka Festival
With Nakanoshima Park as the main venue, waterfront and downtown programs were held throughout the city.
Night programs such as the Suido Osaka Lantern Festival and candle-making also offered ways to spend the evening by the water.
The Suido Osaka Festival is a collaborative festival that inherits the connections between people and the know-how of urban development that were born at Suido Osaka 2009, and builds new networks while creating new ways to enjoy Osaka's waterfront and downtown. In holding the festival, local communities and businesses play a leading role, including proposals from the general public, and in cooperation with government and companies, various challenges are being put into practice, such as social experiments in river areas, proposals for new ways to use waterfronts, and mechanisms to increase mobility between waterfronts and downtowns. Every year, the ideas and people involved in creating unique waterfront spaces are expanding. The connections and activities that were born here will continue and grow into an engine for urban development in Suido Osaka, and the aim is for people who experience the Suido Osaka Festival to incorporate a waterfront lifestyle into their daily lives, fostering civic pride in Suido Osaka, and for such attractive scenery to develop Suido Osaka into a city brand.
