Historical buildings in the Nakanoshima area
The Nakanoshima area is filled with beautiful scenery and is home to many historical buildings, such as Osaka City Central Public Hall and Osaka Prefectural Nakanoshima Library, as well as bridges with retro designs that have a long history. There are also many cultural facilities, such as hotels, international conference centers, and art museums, making it one of the areas that truly symbolize the water city of Osaka.

Eastern Nakanoshima is home to many bridges and historical buildings, such as Osaka City Central Public Hall and Osaka Prefectural Nakanoshima Library, many of which are lit up at night, captivating visitors day and night with their beautiful scenery that symbolizes the water city of Osaka.
In Kitahama, there is a series of riverside terraces called "Kitahama Terraces" facing the Tosabori River, and they have become established as a lively waterside scene, with various events being held there every year starting with the opening of the riverside terraces.
Nakanoshima Park is bustling no matter the season, with various events being held throughout the year. The vast lawn and the rose garden, which blooms in spring and autumn, provide a place of peace and relaxation for the many visitors.
Completed in 1918 as a cultural hub for the city, this elegant building incorporates the neo-Renaissance style. The illuminated night view is also spectacular.
The 15th head of the Sumitomo family, Sumitomo Kichizaemon Tomozumi, donated the substantial library building and funds, which was expanded in 11 and the current Nakanoshima Library was completed. The library now has an amazing collection of about 50 books.
The design for this bridge, along with that for Yodoyabashi, was submitted to a public competition and was chosen by Tatsuo Otani. It was completed in 10 and is designated as an Important Cultural Property.
Western part
Western Nakanoshima is an area where you can feel the cultural atmosphere of hotels, international conference centers, art museums, and high-quality urban development that makes use of the waterfront with attractions such as Hotarumachi and Nakanoshima Banks.
The Shiomachi area, where the Dojima River and Tosabori River flow on both sides of Nakanoshima, joins the Aji River, which is also the birthplace of Osaka Port, and was once the home of a fish market, known as the nation's kitchen. Currently, Nakanoshima GATE North Pier, along the Aji River heading into Osaka Bay, is expected to become a hub between the sea and the river, with the development of facilities for mooring cruisers from the sea underway. On the opposite bank, South Pier is bustling with Nakanoshima Fishing Port and Nakanoshima Minato Shokudo, which offer fresh seafood.
The museum opened in 1977 with the aim of collecting and exhibiting works, mainly contemporary art, and was newly built in 2004. The design of the building evokes the vitality of bamboo and the development and growth of contemporary art, and it has become a new cultural hub in the historic and cultural town of Nakanoshima.
The elegant steel frame of the building serves as the West Gate of Nakanoshima and is lit up. The color of the light changes slowly as evening approaches.
This pedestrian bridge connects Nakanoshima Pedestrian Road and Dojima Park. The lighting makes use of the sharp lines of the girders, creating a smart atmosphere in the everyday life of the city.
